Martin to Step Away from Aerospace Operating Executive Role; Lawrence Varholak Named as Successor at Additive Manufacturing Industry Leader

South Windsor, CT – Oxford Performance Materials Inc. (OPM), a leading advanced materials and additive manufacturing (3D printing) company, today announced that Paul Martin will retire from operational management of the company’s Aerospace & Industrial group and will chair a newly-formed Aerospace Executive Committee of the company’s Board of Directors, with a focus on strategy and market development for the rapidly expanding organization.

OPM utilizes advanced materials science, process technology and application-appropriate additive manufacturing and other solutions to manufacture disruptive end-use products, leveraging the company’s proprietary formulation of poly-ether-ketone-ketone (PEKK), an unparalleled high performance polymer for industrial and biomedical applications. OPM Aerospace & Industrial utilizes the company’s proprietary OXFAB® technology platform to deliver lightweight, high performance, cost-competitive, 3D printed thermoplastic parts for spacecraft, commercial and military aircraft, and other industrial solutions. OPM’s additive manufacturing technology produces parts that satisfy the performance requirements of a range of traditionally manufactured aluminum and composite components at lighter weight and reduced cost.

Mr. Martin’s role at OPM began in early 2012 as investor, Board member and advisor. The following year, at the request of CEO Scott DeFelice, Mr. Martin agreed to take on the full-time role of President of OPM Aerospace & Industrial, and proceeded to ramp significant growth of the operation, helping establish Oxford Performance Materials as a world leader in high performance additive manufacturing (HPAM™).

Mr. Martin has over 40 years of experience in aerospace. In his career, he served as Executive Vice President of the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works®, where he provided strategic direction as part of the leadership team of the company. In 2000, Mr. Martin moved to Sikorsky Aircraft where he ultimately was responsible for all military & government activities of the company.

Mr. Martin holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering from California State Polytechnic University and an MS in Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School, Flight Test Engineers Curriculum, and served in civil service with the U.S. Air Force and the Federal Aviation Administration, performing a range of flight test activities.

Larry has an incredible history in our field, and it is gratifying to know he will be succeeding me as President of OPM Aerospace & Industrial.”

Lawrence Varholak brings over 30 years of engineering and business operations experience to OPM having successfully managed the development and production of a wide range of military and commercial aerospace programs. Prior to joining OPM, Mr. Varholak was COO and VP of New Business Development of Dow–United Technologies Composite Products where he developed industry leading patented technology that enabled the company to become a leader in the fabrication of graphite thermoplastic and thermoset composite aerospace structures. In this capacity, Larry managed programs for Boeing, Lockheed Martin, DARPA and many other major aerospace prime contractors. Larry also served in the capacity of COO and Partner at KLM industries, a $500 million engineered products company that provides services to the largest construction development companies in the New York City metropolitan area. As an Engineering Executive, Larry also has served as Chief Engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft. Larry holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bridgeport and is a Licensed Structural Engineer. He has authored two publications and holds four U.S. patents and two foreign patents in the field of composite aircraft structures.
